THERE will be plenty of fun to unearth at Zeehan this week.
The town's annual Gem and Mineral Fair will be held at Zeehan Primary School on Saturday and Sunday.
Exhibitors will travel from around Australia to showcase their wares, including gems, fossils, minerals and crystals.
They will pit their displays against those belonging to local prospectors in a number of competitions.
Categories include the best Tasmanian and the best world-wide specimen on show.
A people's choice category will also be held.
While the fair celebrates treasures found underneath the Earth's surface, there is also plenty of fun on top of it.
Free entertainment, including a ferris wheel, bungy trampolines and a giant slide, will run over the two days.
There will also be displays from reptile man Mick Thow and art and craft stalls will be set up around the town.
And just in case you haven't already got enough bang for your buck, a fireworks display will be held at the Zeehan Oval at 9pm on Saturday.
Fair organiser Kim Dunstan said all guests were sure to find something that catches their eye.
"It's the biggest annual gem fair in Tasmania," Ms Dunstan said.
"Last year we had 3000 people come and we're hoping for more this year.
"It's a way of putting on a big event for the town and surrounding areas."
